Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart.
Khalil Gibran
I have a love for the world of beauty. When you talk about beauty it can mean so many things. I feel like it’s this big umbrella over everything I love. Although whenever we talk about beauty the first thing that most people think about is makeup. So that’s what this post is about….makeup! We use makeup to enhance the beauty we already have, we use it with costumes, and we use it to cover spots here and there that we want to blend in. I know it can get mixed reviews from some because some like an all natural face with no makeup. But it’s your choice! Everyone likes what they like and does what they want right? Well as for me I can remember being little and getting the lip gloss and eyeshadow kits. I remember making my fake beauty mole lol! I can remember putting on my moms lipstick and any of her makeup that she had and looking a hot mess. I also remember trying to make my eyebrows look better because they were too bushy and completely shaving half of my eyebrow off… right before going out with my family(oh yeah I still had to go!)😂. As I grew up I remember being taught how to put mascara on by one of my cheerleading friends (Emma) and taking the tip she gave me way back then and using it up until now. I also remember using Fashion Fair makeup. Back in the day it had the largest assortment of foundation shades for women of color and it’s what my mom used. I remember using it through high school and then college until I heard of MAC makeup. I continued to hear tidbits here and there about makeup but never enough for me to understand it. So while in college I decided to check out this MAC makeup brand. I got matched with MAC at a mall in my college town and I have used MAC since then. Right after college I became a manager at a department store and that’s where the knowledge of what to do with makeup really started to come in. The first store where I trained was huge! It was a 32million dollar store with a huge cosmetic department that had MAC, Laura Mercier, Chanel, Fashion Fair, Clinique, Estée Lauder, Lancôme, Keihl’s, & Bobby Brown. It was HUGE! I remember talking with the Makeup artists at the different counters, asking questions, helping where I was needed and just soaking it all in! It was work and but it was makeup too! It was exciting! Although during my training I ended up not staying in the cosmetic department I got my chance to run a cosmetic department once I finished training and moved back to my home state. Boy did I learn a ton from a lot from a lot of wonderful people. You may actually know a few of the artist that came from my store. If not find them on social media because they are fab! Mel Thompson (@mel.thomp ) , Kelsey Briana (@Kelseebrianajai) Ron Christopher (@_itsronchristopher) are just some of the wonderful artists that worked at that store. Each one either taught me something, suggested products to try, did my makeup, or just cut up with me when I would come by the counter. Overall makeup has been a side love for me. It doesn’t take the place that hair has in my heart but it is definitely something that I enjoy learning about and trying out. 💜
Wow some great artists there! I have followed you, can’t wait to read your next post! xx
