So when I was in Tennessee I had certain hair products that I used for my hair that never failed me. One of my favorite products was Eco Gel. I could slick a ponytail up into a bun and that Eco would have it LAID! It was my favorite go to when I needed more time for my hair to get through until wash day! Now that I am in Florida it is not working 😫. Although, I have been trying to lay off of the slicked back ponytails only because I have stretched my curl pattern so much in the front of my head that the pattern looks completely different from the back and sides😩. I still need a gel and I started to wonder WHY is my ECO not working?! Well…if you have gone through the same thing where a product was not giving the same results as it once did here are a few reasons why your go to product probably is no longer coming through for you.
1. Location Change (Humidity level difference)
Have you moved to a different city that’s more humid, or less humid? Sometimes when we use products they work well with certain outside contributing factors. It can be really dry with little to no humidity, perfect , or humidity through the roof. When I was in Tennessee the humidity was no where near as high as it is in Florida so (I’m quite sure this is why my Eco isn’t working). …so there you have it! Where you are geographically can make your hair not cooperate with products that it worked with before.
2. Product ingredient change
Sometimes companies change the ingredients in their products. It might be because it’s cheaper or they think a different ingredient works better. Who knows?!? In the end it might not work for everyone once an ingredient is swapped out. Even if they think it’s comparable the slightest difference can have you out here looking like “wait a minute now!” 😳
3. Might be time to clarify my hair (time to deep clean that hair because there is a lot of product build up)
When I add product and add product over and over and only wash and condition sometimes I need to go a bit deeper to get that gunk off of my hair. Every blue moon I clarify my hair. It’s not a constant thing because it’s suppose to strip your hair of everything so I’m not trying to over do it 👀 But when I feel as though my hair has gone quite a while and I have been putting so many different products on it I make sure and use my clarifying shampoo….and then I make sure to add my moisture back in there with a deep conditioner. Clarifying shampoo strips the moisture so putting back is important too!
Now there are probably more reasons but I just listed the 3 that I feel apply to why my Eco isn’t working. So the answer to my question is, no my hair isn’t different it’s just reacting to it’s environment. Whether it be the environment or the stuff I put on it. This natural hair journey is teaching me so much! It’s definitely a marathon and not a sprint. It’s taking me some time to learn more and more about it. But I’m enjoying it! ☺️ Who knows… hopefully me sharing my little journey will help someone else. 👑💜
